Bitsboard Flashcards & Games App Reviews

The updated app of bitsboard is disappointing. While their tutorial shows a settings wheel in the upper right hand corner, the updated version does not have that. Having to type in a user name each time is a hassle. Also, previously we were able to access the web to use pictures for picture plates . That is no longer the case. Now one has to purchase a premium feature to access the web for pictures which severely limits its usefulness. Very disappointing update. Compounding the issue is out of date tutorials that do not instruct using the current version.

Bitsboard is nice for quickly being able to make custom flashcards. Even without the paid subscription, you have access to a large catalog of photos that you can use and you can also use your own photos. I would consider paying for it, except for 3 significant issues: 1) The "Sort it" game and is not working the way it should. I combined three different boards in two a new board (as has instructed in the tutorial), but when I choose that board and try to play “Sort It” I get content from other boards. I wanted to report that issue to Bitsboard, but there is no way of contacting them either from the app or from their website. 2) Every time I tried to play that “Word Chunk ” game, it crashes. Again, no way to report this. 3) There is no built in reward system for the kids. It would be really nice if after completing acts number of trials, the kids could play some kind of fun game. Although the activities on Bitsboard are called “games” most of them really are just drills and quickly get boring for most kids. They would be much more motivated, if they were working torn something that was truly fun.

My students love it!

I loved this app and so did my son. Now it crashes constantly, and when it is working, it is soooooooo slow. Very disappointing.

This is the best education app ever! I am already getting smarter from it and I just got it like two days ago. :)

This version of this app is buggy. It is constantly force closing on me while editing within the boards and has some pretty significant delays. Im very hesitant to use it in sessions because it will decrease productivity hours. Boo!

Many of my speech and language students use this app to support their learning skills. Thank you so very much for providing libraries of pictures.

This app is used by all my students. It is simple and fun so the remain focussed yet energized in their learning efforts.

This App used to be great. We use it for all of our 1st graders. Since latest iOS update it does nothing but crashes every time I try to enter a students board. No longer able to use.

My daughter has been using an iPad (with restrictions) since she was less than a year old. Now at 3, she has definite ideas about what she likes. She is a reader and loves anything to do with letters and words. This app has kept her interest; she has a preference for the picture-sets with kids or animals. She downloads the sets she wants to use or asks me for help.

Love being able to customize cards. The words get put into the receptive selection which is typically too advanced for my kids, but still great. Thank you!

I have downloaded the app and upgraded (at least Im sure I did as I paid the $19.99) and I immediately set up my first user as a student account. Well, apparently, that should have been my account and now I cannot change it. Ive tried several things but cannot seem to fix it. I looked in the help screen and editing a user does not rectify the problem. I sent a request for assistance and am not getting a reply. I cannot find any contact info to get support. CAN ANYONE HELP!!! Ive tried to review on the pro app button but it says I havent downloaded it (which, like I said, I paid for via the free version). Super sad faces right now as I am loving this tool but cant set it up correctly if I cannot fix this problem.

Bitsboard has been excellent app to use with my firstgrader. We have used it for sight words, spelling words, math, subtraction and addition and I found it very useful to review and study all of their homework. Would highly recommend.

This app is perfect for teaching new concepts, refining vocabulary, and teaching directions. It has everything we need and we dont have to go elsewhere. We are able to modify the settings to our unique needs. Love it!

Has a lot of different ways to get at the same words. Nice graphics.

I think the concept of this app is great. However, it needs some work. We were excited to practice my 2nd graders spelling words with this app. I put in the words, but somehow the app mixed them up and pronounces the words wrong. It will only allow him to go through 3-4 flash cards and then kicks him out. So, our conclusion is: this app is too frustrating for children.

This app has so much for my kindergarten students in the computer lab. Just added it to my iPads and cant believe all there is for them to do! Highly recommend!

So great in my classroom!

I use this app everyday and love it. However, when synching backup from old ipad to new one, I lost all my phonics boards ad well as my user accounts. Have not had any luck getting them back. Very frustrating.

Great to use with kids who are using augmentative and alternate means of communication (AAC).
